Knights are two up

MIDRAND - The Knights Cricket Club had successful games on 1 and 2 March, as both their first and second teams recorded victories.

Knights’ first team took on Azad Swaraj Sporting Cricket Club at Halfway House Primary School. Knights won the toss and elected to bat.

Knights Club chairperson Jeremy Meiring said Knights reeled under the pressure that Azad put them under and were 43/4 after 16 overs.

However, Knights’ Santosh Raichetti was joined by Vamshi Vure and their play was”consolidated and constructed”, making 123 runs.

The team ended on a more then competitive 210/7 after 40 overs, with the help of some aggressive hitting from Adril D’Almeida towards the end of the innings, who scored 20 from just five balls.

Knights bowled Azad out for 121 in 20 overs, with man of the match Vamshi Vure bagging 3/19 runs in four overs, and Adril D’Almeida 2/23 in four overs.

Meiring said Knights’ first team were currently occupying third place on the SA7 league log.

Knights’ second team played against Heidelberg in an away fixture. “We won the toss and elected to bowl on a ‘juicy moist’ wicket, as well as overcast conditions, which made the decision to bowl first an obvious one,” said Meiring.

Opening bowlers Somu Shekar scored 2/11 in seven overs, and captain Suman Choudary scored 3/24 in seven overs, and had Heidelberg at 35/5 after 14 overs.

“Man of the match Naveen Sai ripped through their middle order with his left-arm swing bowling, and took 4/15 in seven overs to restrict Heidelberg to 75 all out after 27 overs. Opener Vinesh Reddy blasted 54* from 30 balls.”

Meiring said the second team were “well on their way” to win the league, as they are top of the SA8 log. They are 10 points clear of second-placed Crescents Cricket Club. “With only four matches to go, we should win the league comfortably,” predicted Meiring.
