Midrand up their game

MIDRAND - Midrand Cricket Club’s second side played their return match against Zulfikaars Cricket Club at the Lenz Tech grounds over the past weekend.

Having lost the reverse fixture, the side knew they had a stern test ahead of them.

The side won the toss and backed their bowling by sending the opposition in to bat. What followed was yet another clinical performance in the field that saw Zulfikaars bowled out for 128 within 30 overs.

Chubby Reddy of Midrand Cricket Club proved pivotal with a devastating spell taking four wickets in 7.3 overs for 22 runs. The chase started off slow with the Midrand side restricted by a disciplined bowling line-up.

A couple of wickets upfront kept the game tight. After some rebuilding by the middle order, Reddy, who was already having a splendid game, came in and powered the side over the finish line with some explosive hitting which saw him finish on 39 not out off 27 balls.

Meanwhile, Midrand Cricket Club’s U13 side went into their second match against Old Edwardians Cricket Club hoping to improve on their last performance.

The Midrand club’s juniors did well to bat out their over and set a target of 67, having lost seven wickets in their 25 overs and showed vast improvements.

While they lost the match, they took lots of positives from the game. Midrand Cricket Club is calling on more U13 cricket players to join their juniors’ programme.

Children in the programme will participate in the Gauteng Cricket Board’s junior competitions which run during March. Parents looking for more information can contact Nevish Rampersadh.
