Midrand club ends the season on high
MIDRANDS - The Midrand Cricket Club’s SA8 side went into their last match of the season knowing that whatever the result, this would go down as one of their most successful seasons.
The side won the toss and opted to set a target for Commercials Cricket Club.
Graeme Penny and Tshoko Moloko would again star for the home-side under trying conditions largely caused by a dry and unpredictable pitch.
The side’s middle order again having to fight hard to ensure that the side reached the close of their innings without losing all their wickets. Despite the challenges though, the side still put up a competitive 167 runs on the board.
After the break, Commercials did not know what hit them as the Midrand side tore through their top order. Wickets were falling so fast that before the visitors could attempt a fight back the game was over. The Midrand side claiming a massive 100 run victory.
Now that, the season has ended, the Club’s attention turns to its Inter-club tournament. The tournament, in its second year, sees the club split into four teams: Team Spirit, Team Intrepid, Midrand Indians and Sons of Pitches.
The tournament is set to serve up some nail-bitters because there is much coveted Inter-club trophy on the line.
The club invites new players looking to join to use this opportunity to get to know the club.
