Rabie Ridge soccer youngsters set to move to the big leagues
RABIE RIDGE - Rabie Ridge soccer stars had the final opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a panel of judges on 20 July.
The tournament was held over the past few weeks by Mayibuye and Klipfontein Football Association.
The winning team received a trophy and the members of that team each received a gold medal.
A panel of judges on behalf of the South African Football Association also scouted for talented individuals to be selected.
Community members, slowly drizzled into the Rabie Ridge Stadium to watch the following teams in action: U10, U11, U13, U15, U17 and seniors.
The tournament was sponsored by Fair Price Furniture and the winning teams in each division received a soccer kit. The U17 winning team won a cash prize of R2 000 and the runner-up team won R1 000. The senior team won a floating trophy, and R5 000 for the winners and R3 000 for the runner-ups.
U10: Dribbling 1 Forgive 0
U11: Leeds 1 vs Dribbling 0
U13: Dribbling 1 vs London 1; and in the penalty shootout, Dribbling won 4-3
U15: Dribbling 0 vs Vultures 0
U17: Dribbling 1 vs Magang 1; and in the penalty shootout, Dribbling won 5-4
Seniors: Magang 4 vs MDF 0
Mike Tshipu, chairman of the association expressed his gratitude to the community. “Their support was absolutely marvelous. There are even ladies who volunteered to cook for us! We would like to invite them all back on the 10th so that they can see how wonderfully their kids are performing,” said Tshipu.
Owner of Fair Price Furniture Mohamed Moolla said, “I am thrilled with the standard of football at grassroots level. Bafana Bafana must come see our future stars.”
The award ceremony is set for 10 August and Moolla has said players should expect lots of surprises.
