Midrand Cricket Club participates in KFC mini-cricket festival

JOBURG - Children of the Midrand Cricket Club were treated to a day of cricket as they participated in the KFC Mini Festival at the Wanderers.

Speaking on behalf of the club, chairman Nevish Rampersadh said the KFC Mini Festival gave young cricketers a chance to experience the game of cricket and meet the Proteas.

Rampersadh said, “The first game of the day saw the male Proteas with their female counterparts taking on the KFC mini cricket’s children team. The Proteas side was skippered by Alviro Petersen and batted first. The children’s team was competent and bowled accurately.”

Even though the children’s team put up a valiant fight, the Proteas won the match. Rampersadh added, “The talent on display suggests that Gauteng cricket looks good.”

He said it was gratifying to see the children from Midrand meeting their cricket heroes. “The coming season will see the club running an U13 and U15 side again. We are also looking for sponsorship that will be the vehicle to further strengthen the work envisioned for disadvantaged areas.”

The club is calling on all cricketers in Midrand and surrounding areas to join the club.
