Connor conquers fifth championship
KYALAMI - Connor Terblanche, five-time National BMX champion from Kyalami, had a successful close to the season, winning his qualifying motos to advance to the U12 boys' final.
The South African National BMX Championships took place on 25 October, in Kwa Zulu Natal. During the final, he had a good gate start managing to claim his fifth South African National BMX title. In previous years, Terblanche claimed the same title consecutively from 2009 to date.
The same venue played host to the African Continental Championships on 26 October. Met with rainy weather conditions, Terblanche was undeterred, going on to claim his first African Continental Championships title in the Boys U12 group. In July, Terblanche was selected to represent South Africa at the UCI BMX World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He qualified through to the finals of the U12 and Under Cruiser finishing third.
At the tender age of 12, with already an array of accolades to his name, it is pretty evident that he will be making waves in the BMXing world for years to come. The domestic BMX season has come to an end, but Terblanche is aiming to compete in the annual Africa Challenge in Harare, Zimbabwe on 6 December before taking a well-deserved break.
