New gear, same winning streak
MIDRAND - The Midrand Cricket Club (MCC) took on their neighbours, the Midrand Knights, in a SA7 fixture at the Knight’s Midrand Primary grounds, for the first time in their new sporting gear.
MCC won the first game between the two sides and was looking to assert their dominance over their neighbours with a victory in the return game. The rivalry between the two sides has made this fixture a highlight in the season.
The Knights drew first blood as they won the toss and elected to bat. It did not take long before the game came to life as the MCC claimed their first wicket in the third over.
The Knights found themselves reeling on 80 runs for five wickets. Sustained pressure saw the home side posting a meagre 141 runs all out on what was a high scoring ground.
The MCC bowlers were led by Thando Mrawu and two upcoming juniors Devyn Hadfield and Ben Hunterblair.
They began their run chase in a convincing manner putting on a 50 partnership for the first wicket. Teddy Makoanyane took a liking to the Knights bowlers as he dispelled them to all parts of the ground in a quick-fire innings of 75 runs in 67 balls. The knock proved to be a match winning one as the MCC cruised to a five-wicket win with seven overs remaining.
