Police and schools engage in sports against crime

MIDRAND - Police, the Community Policing Forum and Public Safety Youth Desk organised soccer, netball and volleyball matches in a Sports Against Crime initiative.

Law enforcement members were joined by pupils of Noordwyk Secondary School and Midrand High School with the aim of raising awareness against crime. Police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said, “We chose to involve schools in this initiative as the use of drugs in our schools is a big problem.”

Emergency Medical Services representative Constance Masilela echoed Tlamela’s sentiment. “We are doing this as public safety to discourage young people from doing crime by engaging them in sports.”

Ward 112 Councillor Candice James also came to support the initiative and took part in a netball game.

Midrand police thanked all the people who supported the initiative, especially the office of MMC of Public Safety which provided catering, Joburg Water for a water tank and Tactical Reaction Services for bottled water.
