Midrand Cricket Club chase their goal
JOBURG - MIDRAND Cricket Club’s SA4 side beat Hilson Park Cricket Club in an away game on 4 April.
Midrand captain, Uven Rampersad lost the toss and was asked to bat first in damp conditions. Midrand weathered the early storm and scored a positive 50 partnership for the first wicket with Rajesh Waran leading the visitors with an aggressive knock of 44 from 50 balls. As conditions dried, the Midrand batsman came into their own and took the challenge to their hosts. Hilson Park found wickets hard to come by and had to play the containing game as the Midrand side made their way to a challenging score of 198 all out in 35 overs.
The pressure was on as Hilson Park had to put up a solid batting performance and this they did up front scoring 71/2 two in 15 overs. However, Rampersad stopped the flow of runs when he picked up three wickets in two overs. The spell changed the complexion of the game and Midrand’s young sensation, Devyn Hadfield wrapped up the tail by taking 5/23 in 5.2 overs to dismiss Hillson Park for 123 runs in 28 overs.
The win sees Midrand moving into to joint second with Hilson Park on the log, four points behind the leading team.
Midrand now needs two more wins to claim this year’s title and earn promotion in the Gauteng Cricket Board league.
