MCC’s cricket season comes to a close

MIDRAND - Midrand Cricket club’s SA4 team has been promoted back to the Gauteng Cricket Board’s top tier league.

This after their victory over Dexina Cricket Club.

The toss was won by the visitors who chose to bat. After 10 overs the visitors were 62/2. Two more wickets fell in the 12th and 13th overs as the home side began to fight back. These proved to be key wickets as the visitors could only muster another 87 runs to close on 159 all out.

Midrand Cricket club marked their title credentials with a convincing response by chasing down the total with 10 overs to spare. The victory sparked euphoria among the victorious players.

Club chairman Nevish Rampersadh said, “The club has made giant strides. It started with the landmark establishments of our U11 and 13 sides. Then there was the drive and engagements with local schools to help them develop their junior players by exposing them to club cricket.

“So to see these results is encouraging, as it shows that the work we are doing at the grassroot level is bearing fruit. This is encouraging as there is still a lot to be done.”

Rampersadh added that their work was not done until aspiring cricketers in and around Midrand have access to play in the highest leagues in Gauteng. “The next biggest challenge for the club is to extend this to the surrounding townships,” he said.
