Tree Tops Montessori sports day
MIDRAND - Tree Tops Montessori Pre-School held a sports day with a difference recently.
There were no first, second or third places as all the kids were rewarded for finishing their tasks. From the parents and teachers playing tug of war to pupils balancing bean bags on their heads, the school organised an event with a wacky twist.
“I would like to just say, the parents’ committee beat the teachers at tug of war,” said Logan Naidoo, parent to three-year-old Thearyn.
“We had a superb day, it was really just lots of fun for the children.”
Jenny de Kock, owner and principal of the pre-school, said it was important to encourage team spirit.
“Today was not about winning and losing, all the children were winners,” she said.
“It is extremely important to encourage each and every child to be secure in our love for them and to have self-esteem.”
This philosophy does not end on the playing field though, it extends into the classroom.
“We don’t cap their learning and there are only 12 pupils in each class,” she said.
She thanked all the parents and sponsors who supported the event. “We are a 100 percent family school, for us parent participation is important.”
