Win a trip to IRB Rugby World Cup final match in UK
MIDRAND - Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club, founded by Ndumiso Tshuma in 2013, needs support from the local community.
The club is based at Midrand High School and has many basic needs, however, they make do with the little they have. Tshuma, with the help of Kwazi Shangase, the school’s sports administrator, manage the team’s 50 active players.
“We formally registered in December 2014 and we are celebrating our first anniversary since the start of operations. Our Rugby programmes run all year round, including off-season and pre-season,” said Shangase.
“The club continues to grow and we want to invite more players to join us. Our vision is to promote rugby at grassroots and youth level.”
The club is also looking for corporate partners, which can play a leading role in the development of the sport in the community.
“We are in a position to align [corporate partners’] efforts to ensure that organisation’s marketing objectives are met and their brand awareness is enhanced,” said Tshuma.
They train on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings during pre-season, which is between February and March. During the rugby season which is in April through to September, they train on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5.30pm.
To raise funds for operational costs, the club is running a raffle in which the winner will receive two tickets to the IRB Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham in the UK at the end of October. It is an all-inclusive prize. The competition draw will be conducted on 5 September.
