The 50th Anniversary of the South African Derby

KYALAMI - The eagerly anticipated 2015 Galencia Property South African Derby will be hosted at Kyalami Park Club on 4 October.

The showjumping event draws in riders, enthusiasts, friends and family who come together from around the country to celebrate the sport while enjoying the finest food, music, fashion and parties.

This year’s derby is expected to be the biggest and best yet, as it will be a celebration of a true milestone in South African showjumping – the 50th anniversary of the derby.

Last year, the club hosted a one-of-a-kind event with an attendance of more than 5 000 people. This year, guests will have the option of general access grandstand seats, or the choice of three different tented VIP ticket options complete with live entertainment and cuisine.

The derby has become known for bringing together some of the world’s top players in showjumping, as the 2014 Derby boasted top international showjumping commentator Philippe Le Jeune Jnr, and top local course designer, Kate Launder.

Showjumpers from around the country work the circuit all year to qualify for the competition, which is considered one of the toughest courses in South African showjumping.

The 18-obstacle, 1 200m course was won for the third year in a row by Nicole Horwood last year.

This year’s theme for the derby is The Midas Touch as guests gather to celebrate 50 years of history.
