Gymnastic in Midrand on the rise
MIDRAND - Gymnastics is a growing sport in Midrand according to gymnastics coach, Nelson Midzi.
As part of his Totsgames Gymnastics, a fitness programme aimed at children, Midzi organised a gymnastic competition for preschool and primary school children. The gymnasts competed in floor exercises, the trampoline and the vault.
And although Midzi said all the children performed well in all the categories, there could only be one winner in each.
In the preschool trampoline category, first place was taken by Danika Naicker of Urban Kids gym.

Khanya Sikhosana of Morden Montessori, took first place for the Intermediate U8 vault category and she also took gold for floor exercises.
Midzi said the competition went well. “It’s the third competition since we started operating in Midrand,” he said.
“Parents and spectators came in their numbers in support of their children.” He added that he encouraged children to participate in sport from a young age as this would lead to a healthy lifestyle.
Midzi said Totsgames Gymnastics was growing exponentially. “The club has grown by leaps and bounds and I was excited by the children’s performances, they really enjoy taking part in this sport,” said Midzi.
For the coach, this is a dream come true. “I could feel my dream of having gymnastics competitions at inter-schools level would soon materialise. It is my belief that children must be occupied in physical activities as a means to avert laziness.”
He said sports would decrease childhood obesity as well as improve the mental state of growing minds. “As the old adage says, ‘a healthy body, a healthy mind’.”
