Teenager wins Sondela Cycle Race

Ocean Basket Group CEO, Grace Harding, hosted a dinner to hand over a cheque of R10 000 to teenager Rickardo Broxnam (16) who was the overall winner of the 107km Sondela Cycle race hosted by the Sondela Nature Reserve.

The dinner was hosted at the restaurant franchise in the Mall of Africa. The company said it decided to grant the young winner these funds because it was clear he did not have enough money to buy proper cycling kit, and his passion for the sport urged them to sponsor him as a way of encouraging and assisting him.

The young winner is a team member of Jaguar Compressors and also a pupil at Ermelo Christian School.

Harding added that the sponsorship of Broxnam was not part of the winner’s package but was a gesture by the founder of Ocean Basket, Fats Lazaribes who also participated in the race.
