Midrand CC’s good fortunes continue with SA2 win
MIDRAND – Midrand Cricket Club continued its good run of form with a win against league rivals, Bakerton YS.
Midrand Cricket Club beat league rivals Bakerton YS by 27 runs in an SA2 fixture.
The game was reduced to 30 overs from the usual 35, due to a rain delay and Bakerton won the toss and put Midrand in to bat.
Midrand’s openers, Rajeshwaran Thirumalaiswamy and Harsha Vayyasi laid a good foundation, scoring 79 in 13 overs before Thirumalaiswamy was dismissed for 40.
Tshoko Moloko joined Vayyasi and the pair started to build a good partnership before Vayyasi was out 10 runs short of his 50.
Captain Madhu Garlapati sent Thando Mrawu in to join Moloko, with Mrawu scoring a quick-fire 24 before being dismissed. His contribution helped steer the side to 223/3, setting Bakerton 224 to win at a run rate of 7.46 per over.
Bakerton, in reply, only managed 196/9 in their 30 overs.
The result enabled the Midrand SA2 team to leapfrog Bakerton on the table to be joint first with Kempton Park.
“They know they’ll have to keep the momentum going, starting with a return to Olifantsfontein against Eden Park on 4 February,” said the club’s Darren Olivier.
