Stingers hold lead on the league

MIDRAND – Stingers claim a 17–13 victory over Southern Knights.

Tshuma Stingers travelled south to take on Southern Knights in the Golden Lions Senior Grand Challenge.

The visiting team had a point to prove after losing to Knights in a first-round match in Midrand.

In a physical encounter which saw Stingers’ Siphamandla Madlala leaving the field due to a recurring shoulder injury, it was teammate Malusi Mkhize who crossed the whitewash to score a superb opening try in the 11th minute. The five-pointer was the result of some great play by Brian Mkiva with Mkhize converting. Stingers went into halftime with a 10–0 lead.

After the break, it was Knights who hit back with a converted try and surprisingly took a 13–10 lead after Jeraldo Koopman slotted two penalties in succession.

Tshuma Stingers’ captain Simbarashe Chadya and his vice, Brian Mkiva, called for an effective contest, discipline at the breakdowns and set-phase accuracy. The Golden Lions match official blew the final whistle with Tshuma Stingers winning 17–13 against Southern Knights.
