KYALAMI – Patrick Brown and Wow's Yellowood win their category at the Gauteng Dressage Championships.

Local dressage legend, Patrick Brown once again turned in medals at the Gauteng Dressage Championships at Kyalami Park Club

The trainer and co-owner at Teranga Stables, impressed judges in the small tour freestyle category to win his class and also take a victor ludorum across both classes on his famous horse, Wow’s Yellowood.

Wow’s Yellowood is of unknown pedigree and because of this, and his ability to beat horses bred for competition, he is always a crowd favourite at shows.

“To be honest we did expect to do well. Wow’s Yellowood is a dependable horse and he is always reliable,” Brown said after the win.

“We have to follow prescribed movements during our freestyle performance and are marked down if we do any wrong movements in wrong places.”

He said the flying change sequences were a bit challenging during his routine and this is something the rider and horse will work on before they compete at the South African Dressage Championships in Brits in October.

“We will also practise our canter pirouette, which you do on the spot and requires strength from the horse.”

Brown said Judy Vertue helped by choosing ‘upbeat and unique’ music for his freestyle routine that worked perfectly for both the horse and the rider.
