Midrand Striders kick off the year with multiple marathons
MIDRAND – Midrand Striders are looking forward to a great 2020.
Midrand Striders took on two big races to prepare for an exciting year ahead.
The spokesperson for the club Nomathemba Masuku said, “The start of the year is always filled with big dreams for runners and 2020 was no different. January is a busy month for all runners as they are gunning to get back into the swing of things.”
The club took part in the annual Dis-Chem 21km Half Marathon in Bedfordview on 12 January.
Masuku added, “Over 70 club members participated in the race this year and Tsenoli Tiheli once again came first leading the Midrand pack as he did in 2019 with a time of 01:29:00.

“January has been a busy month as the club that is based at Curro Midrand also took a team to Benoni for the ever-popular Johnson Cranes Marathon, and many runners were running their hearts out to qualify for this year’s edition of Comrades Marathon and some were improving their seeding.”
The club will also celebrate their 40th anniversary this year. “We have grown to almost 250 members and as per our tradition, we will be hosting our new members’ night on 20 February where we will be breaking bread with new members and inducting them into the running community.”
The club is also gearing up for the Comrades Marathon and will be hosting their longstanding 60km annual Comrades training run on 10 May and invite entrants to take part.
Masuku said the club had begun their weekly runs and invited the local community to take part on Tuesdays for the 4km or 8km at 5.30pm, Thursday for track sessions at 5.15pm and Sundays for a 15 to 30km run at 6.30am.
