Ebony Angels thank community for support
EBONY PARK – Ebony Angels celebrate their first birthday after many hurdles.
The Ebony Angles Women Soccer Club, made up of young and elderly women, celebrated their first birthday.
The teammates gathered with the team founder and guests from other soccer teams in the Greater Ivory Park area on 7 March to honour the hardships and success they have encountered since the team was started.
The team’s founder, Khomotso Moeketsi said when she started the journey of their women’s football club it was not easy. “There were stones thrown at me, and there was a time when I wanted to quit, so I decided that we should celebrate our team’s one-year birthday because we have achieved a lot together this past year.

“I would like to thank Mark Greig, from Ian Dickie who donated a kit to us, and also Hollywood Bets as they sponsored us with a soccer kit too. I would also love to thank the Midrand Reporter for its support.”

One of the team members, Zozo Simelane said that it was not easy for them to get to the point where they can now celebrate. “Because of persistence, and believing that without God we can’t do anything, we now know that whenever we get together, be it for training or for a game, we first start with a prayer and that is why today we were able to meet and celebrate our team’s birthday.

“We struggled in the beginning, sometimes we’d have one or three players. I also wanted to quit but because our team’s founder believed in the vision, she asked me to come back. As I came back I made sure that we had to take the team far.”
