Little Kickers hosts fun competition for kids

MIDRAND – Young soccer players had the opportunity to show how many kicks they could do.

Little Kickers Midrand hosted a fun online competition to see who could do the most juggles with their feet only.

The competition was for the group’s mega kickers, which is their oldest class, and ran from 20 to 30 June.”You have to start with a flick from the bottom of the ground,” club owner, Manuela Jardim said in a video about the competition, which posted on the group’s Facebook page.

“Then you are going to start with your juggles. How many juggles can you do without dropping the ball. You’ve got to record it and send it to us. The one with the most juggles without dropping the ball, on the feet only, you will win a prize.”

In the video, coach Ryan Ndlovu showed off his juggling skills.Jardim said Eli Young (8) was easily the winner with 141 juggles. He won a Little Kickers branded soccer ball for his efforts.

When the lockdown is over and training is resumed, Little Kickers will implement safety measures such as ensuring classes are small, and implement social distancing.

Jardim said the club has two core beliefs: play and not push, and that soccer can be educational. This means coaches aim to teach soccer in a fun, pressure-free environment and when correctly taught, the sport can stimulate imagination and aid early development skills, such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team.
