Kyalami Country Club reopens golf with safety protocols in place

KYALAMI – Safety protocols are followed to a tee at Kyalami Country Club.

Golf is up and running again at Kyalami Country Club and while players are happy to be back, staff have ensured strict safety protocols are followed.

Upon arrival at the clubhouse, one’s information and temperature is taken before access to the greens is permitted.

“During the early weeks of lockdown, a small team of staff ensured the course was maintained, and it has been kept in beautiful condition since,” said the club’s general manager, Fonzi Jardim.

“We have taken a financial knock from the lockdown, who hasn’t? But we did not have to make any retrenchments and we are seeing more players coming through now.”

Safety protocols outlined by Golf RSA have been followed to a T (or rather to a tee) and they include the wearing of face masks when not playing, keeping social distances, sanitising, only pre-booked rounds and up to four players are allowed and players have to leave right after their sessions.

The club’s bar and restaurant are closed but takeaway food is offered at the halfway house and coffee is for sale at the clubhouse. There are mechanisms installed at the holes to allow one to retrieve the ball from the hole without touching the flag. These protocols have ensured players have still had fun while playing golf safely in the wake of a pandemic.

“Overall, things are improving and we are grateful to the members who donated money during the early part of lockdown even when they could not play golf,” Jardim added.
