Indlovu’s preseason smooth, but goals scarce

These preseason matches provided the team with a valuable opportunity to test their fitness and preparedness ahead of the Nedbank Cup and the new league season.

Indlovu FC is currently in the midst of pre-season planning and recently travelled to Bedfordview Country Club Field to play Sekhukhune United DDC in a thrilling match of three 45-minute stanzas.

These preseason matches provided the teams with a valuable opportunity to test their fitness and preparedness ahead of the Nedbank Cup and the new league season.

While Thato Legodi’s boys have been struggling to score goals, unfortunately, the drought continued as they lost all stanzas without hitting the back of the net on September 20.

“I believe we need to better understand how to handle this situation [failing to score]. Especially if we get new players, all we need to do is channel them into what we want, and maybe the portrait of the scoreboard will change,” Legodi said.

Despite the loss, Legodi was very positive about his team’s performance, saying they were playing well and getting into their rhythm so much more smoothly than they had in the previous games.

“The boys played well, although it came after a huge amount of preparation. Coach Paulas Mashehe’s team [Sekhukhune] was on top of us, and they made sure our players opened up quite well.

“We are initially getting our rhythm much more smoothly than before. Getting players out of their comfort zone and making sure they perform better than the previous season.

“I believe we are heading in a good direction, not one that I want, but we are not there yet. We want to reestablish new stars within the team as we released a couple of players who joined the upper leagues.”

The ever-lively Tshegofatso ‘Kante’ Serema was once again the standout player, and Legodi made special mention of him.

Additionally, the team has acquired a new midfielder, Ntsako Makhubela, who is a top performer and is likened to former Brazilian footballer Fernandinho.

After their last cup victory in the Khabazela Kings Cup, Legodi believes Makhubela will be influential and add to their midfield strength as they also look to win another local domestic cup in the Midrand Diski Challenge.

This weekend, Indlovu will participate in the Midrand Diski Challenge, and Legodi said the management had given the players a mandate that they need to at least reach the finals of the tournament for them to play in this year’s edition of the Phyllis Games.

“We will also be playing Orlando Pirates as our final away preparation match of the preseason ahead of the Nedbank Cup and league start.”
