Throughout the tournament, Midrand displayed impressive performance, partnering with the Gauteng Province Chess for an event that began on October 12.

Coach Kgosimang Molefe shared insights into their strategy, noting that they strategically placed their strongest player on the last board to confront what they viewed as the weakest opponents, ensuring they secured a point in each round.

To prepare, the team practised solving chess puzzles, which sharpened their tactics and gameplay.

Molefe highlighted the match against JBH as their toughest challenge, acknowledging JBH’s active participation in the chess community, which made them formidable opponents.

In response, Molefe’s team sought to outmanoeuvre JBH with unconventional moves to create surprises during the match.

The entire Midrand team performed exceptionally, achieving a perfect score throughout the competition. Molefe believes their success will encourage other teams to prepare more rigorously for future encounters with the Midrand Chess Club, which is well-respected in the chess community for consistently being strong contenders for first prize.
