Noordwyk Parkrun hosts Blue Run/Walk for men, 21 first-timers shed sweat

After hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness event in October, Noordwyk Parkrun highlights awareness of prostate cancer.

The Noordwyk Parkrun hosted yet another successful event, a Blue Run/Walk dedicated to men’s health and highlighting awareness of prostate cancer.

This happened on November 23 at Noordwyk Park after it played host to a Pink Run/Walk in October to support breast cancer awareness. The latest event had volunteers and many participants dressed in blue and wearing moustaches to mark this very important cause.

The event was the 127th parkrun/walk held at Noordwyk Park, with 119 participants, 21 people were first-timers, who ran, jogged and walked the course.

The event directors Amina Saber and Jeanny Tshukudu said they were pleased with the club’s growth with more people becoming aware of this free event held every Saturday at 8:00 at Noordwyk Park, 101 Plane Street. “The event is dog friendly with one dog allowed per participant on a short hand-held leash,” said Saber. “The weekly event creates an opportunity for the community to join together, get active and have fun. As event directors, we are very grateful to every one of the volunteers. This weekly event would not be possible without the volunteer’s continued commitment and time.”

She added a special thank you goes to their PR person Patricia Nementzik and Lynne Maclean affectionately known as the ‘Mother of the Park’ for all their invaluable contributions in making these special events possible.

Tshukudu said, “I would also like to thank the volunteers for cleaning the Noordwyk Park every Friday morning with the help of Austin, ensuring a clean park for all runners and walkers to enjoy on a Saturday morning. A big thank you to Chris and Sarina Byl, Kenny Govender and Nementzik for the weekly provision of cups, water and ice to ensure everyone is well hydrated including a special doggy bowl for our beloved pets.

She added Glad Mnisi, known as ‘Glad our man’ always had the biggest smile on his face and along with their core volunteer group made for a wonderful event each week.

Saber and Tshukudu said the Noordwyk Parkrun was planning some special themed events for 2025 which would make for some extra fun and building of community.

They are looking forward to their happy holidays themed parkrun on December 14 where participants are invited to ‘dress festively’ and actively celebrate the festive season.
