Tebogo Matega’s stunning free kick seals Somnyama victory over Mayibuye

A second-half red card and a moment of brilliance from Tebogo Matega decided the Midrand U15 League clash between Somnyama Super United and Mayibuye Development.

Somnyama Super United FC talisman Tebogo Matega proved to be the difference-maker when his long-range free-kick secured a 1–0 victory over Mayibuye Development in the Midrand U15 League at Rabie Ridge Stadium on October 10.

The match gained momentum after the restart, with Mayibuye facing the added challenge of playing with 10 men following Esihle Ludidi’s red card in the second half.

Despite being a player down, Mayibuye continued to match Somnyama’s intensity and put up a fight as both teams looked to take control of the contest.

Somnyama, however, continued to threaten through the individual brilliance of Tebogo and Melton Hlungwane, whose attacking runs and defence-splitting passes kept Mayibuye’s backline under pressure.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Tebogo stepped up to take a free kick from a distance. The Somnyama talisman unleashed a powerful strike that beat Mayibuye goalkeeper Olwakhe Fakuni, who was unable to reach the ball.

The goal proved decisive, giving Somnyama the lead and putting them in a strong position to claim all three points.

With the advantage secured, Somnyama focused on retaining possession and managing the closing stages of the match to protect their lead.

Mayibuye continued to compete despite their numerical disadvantage, but they were unable to find an equaliser before the final whistle.

Tebogo’s set-piece strike ultimately separated the two sides in a closely contested encounter, handing Somnyama Super United a valuable victory in the Midrand U15 League.
