Crack the whip on blue light gang

The blue-light brigade has done it again.

On Tuesday, a black BMW in a blue-light convoy and a Toyota believed to belong to a labour department were involved in an accident near the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein.

The Star newspaper reported that the driver of the BMW allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic light. The number plates were immediately removed after the crash. Both drivers were taken to hospital.

Accidents such as these will continue to happen for as long as the blue-lighters remain law onto themselves. Lives have been compromised and cases of assault reported in incidents involving blue-light convoys and members of the public.

Being bullied off the road by these gangsters is a sight most motorists are familiar with.

However, a government employee’s schedule is not more important than the life and safety of ordinary South Africans.

Government officials must leave for their destination on time and be forced to obey speed-limit rules like other motorists.

Should this fail, the public officials in transit must be taken to task as they are responsible for and in charge of their convoys.
