Two wins, one loss

MIDRAND - Midrand Cricket Club's SA8 side took on Heidelberg Cricket Club in an away fixture.

The Midrand side amassed a total of 238 runs in their 40 overs which featured a 200-run partnership between Graeme Penny and Tshoko Moloko.

Having contributed with the bat, Penny claimed five wickets to finish a perfect day for the gifted all-rounder, thereby sealing the win for the Midrand side.

In one of two fixtures the SA5 side, still in pursuit of top spot in their division, were away to Marlboro Cricket Club. The Marlboro side would prove too strong for their visitors as a below par performance left the Midrand side ruing what could have been.

Their next fixture was against Wanderers Cricket Club. Having successfully chased in their previous victories, they elected to bowl. The first breakthrough came in the seventh over courtesy of Stuart Buy with the guests on 32.

Smelling blood, Buy took another scalp in his next over and another in the eleventh over leaving the guests teetering on 40/3 after 11 overs. Then it was the turn of spinner Niresh Masana who trapped the number four LBW. This was just the turnaround the side was looking for and seeing the turn on offer, the side elected to bowl two spinners in tandem. Masana stifled one end as Lee Naidoo broke the spirit of the batsmen at the other end with wickets tumbling.

With a low score to chase, the Midrand batsmen strode out to the crease almost too confidently and just two balls into the innings found themselves 1/1. However, Daren Moodley righted the ship with a quick 38 off 47 which included six boundaries to steer his team to another win and a bonus point to boot.
