MIDRAND – Woman arrested for theft after she stole a laptop pretending to be in need of help.

Midrand police have urged residents to be vigilant and not to trust strangers, after a woman was robbed of her laptop on 16 March when she fell for a faulty story.
“According to the victim, two women approached her pretending to be in need of help because one lady was allegedly Zambian and could not count South African money and therefore the alleged Zambian woman asked the unsuspecting victim to count the money for her, since the other woman she was with, wanted to purchase a weave from the Zambian woman,” said Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.
“One of the women pretended to be interested in buying the weave and asked the victim to accompany her to a nearby guy who would be dropping off the money for her, as a form of assurance that they will return.
“The victim then left her laptop with the alleged Zambian woman and when the victim returned alone, the alleged perpetrator, along with the laptop valued at R6 000, was gone.”
The police managed to track down the woman and found the laptop in her possession. She was then arrested for theft.
