MIDRAND – Take a look at the top sports stories published in the Midrand Reporter this year.
The Covid-19 pandemic has hit hard on local sport with many clubs and players unable to do what they love.
But throughout the year, there have been some inspiring and thrilling stories published.

Blue Hills College wins Midrand cluster athletics competition for the third year in a row
Midrand High School hosted 12 schools from around Midrand for the Midrand cluster athletics competition on 7 February. While many schools came ready to take the 2020 athletics cup home, Blue Hills College managed to keep it in their trophy cabinet for the third year in a row.

Tshuma Stingers awards its players
The Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club hosted its annual award ceremony on 7 March to celebrate the hard work and stellar performance of the players from the previous year. They were joined by former professional player Steve Meyer who attended to support the players at the ceremony.
Midrand Striders to give back on Mandela Day
Midrand Striders paid homage to former president Nelson Mandela by encouraging their members to take part in a virtual run to commemorate Mandela Day. The run was deep into the nationwide lockdown, so the runners chose their own route while following strict protocol. During their run, they gave back to the needy in the Midrand area.
Midrand cricket players back on the pitch
Following the announcement of the national lockdown, members of Midrand Cricket Club were unable to play the game they love. But on 8 November, they gathered at the Olifantsfontein Oval with Midrand Knights Cricket Club and Tembisa Cricket Club to play a few practice matches ahead of the scheduled season.
Summerhill’s head of sport excels in national netball league
Head of sport at Summerhill Preparatory School and College, Keneiloe Kgasi took part in the National Telkom Netball League, playing for the Mpumalanga Sunbirds. Though the team didn’t win, Kgasi excelled in her matches receiving the player of the match award for her performance in their third game against the Western Cape Tornadoes.
