The New Life Centre reflects on 2020
GLEN AUSTIN – The New Life Centre for Girls took a walk down 2020, sharing some of their hardships and things they are grateful for.
The New Life Centre For Girls continues to be a haven for girls despite challenges. The centre offers a home to pregnant women and girls in crisis.
Director of the centre, Khopotso Nakin, on behalf of all board members and the girls, shared the highs and lows from the year.
Nakin said they were so fortunate and happy that despite the rollercoaster 2020 had been, the owner of the house where the girls stay had been really amazing to them and had allowed them to stay in his house without paying rent.
“We never went to bed on empty stomachs. We have a car to take children to and from school even though it is small. We have an amazing team which is the social worker, care workers, cook and admin workers, who are really committed.”
Nakin added that even though they were grateful, the many challenges the centre had experienced could not be ignored. “Our neighbour put an offer to purchase our house that the girls see as their home. We are still unable to pay rent, electricity and water as well as our staff.
“We hope to have finances to be able to pay the staff who take care of our girls and run the day to day errands. and to get school uniform donation as the girls are outgrowing their current ones.”
