SAPS flags Bushbuckridge ‘voter assault’ video as fake

A video circulating on social media allegedly falsely claims that an assault occurred during voter registration.

Police are investigating a case after a complainant was allegedly assaulted following a meeting held at the Bushbuckridge municipal offices on June 19.

According to police, an altercation broke out after the meeting.

SAPS has since noted a video circulating on social media that falsely claims the incident occurred during voter registration.

“SAPS wishes to place on record that the incident has no connection to voter registration and did not occur during the voter registration period,” said police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Police urged members of the public to refrain from posting or sharing false and misleading information on social media, warning that it may cause unnecessary panic and hamper ongoing investigations.
