Robbers sentenced to 30 years
The court acknowledged the commitment of the investigator for working tirelessly and presenting evidence that assisted the court to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt until conclusion which necessitated such a sentence.
The Circuit of the Pretoria High Court in Kwaggafontein imposed a 30-year jail term to two accused each on Monday.
Percy Langalakhe Mnguni (34) and Sibusiso Kunene (29) were not only handed hefty sentences, but were also declared unfit to possess firearms. They were facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
This comes after an incident that occurred on June 4 2015 at Suncity AA in KwaMhlanga, where a family of four was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by four armed men who fled the scene.
The victims chased the suspects’ motor vehicle using their own vehicle while summoning the police. In the process, both vehicles lost control and overturned. One of the accused was killed instantly and the other three were taken to KwaMhlanga hospital under police guard. All the victims escaped the accident with no injuries.
