Social media the way to go
Mabuza encouraged members to use social media to advance the election campaign in preparation for the 2014 general elections.
EMALAHLENI – Mr David Mabuza has urged members of his organisation to use social media to defend it.
Speaking at the ANC List Conference recently, Mabuza encouraged members to use social media to advance the election campaign in preparation for the 2014 general elections.
He said the ANC was under serious attack from the opposition through various forms of communication tools including social media and it was time for the the ruling party members to consider utilising this technology in defending themselves instead of using the organisational channels of communicating.
“It must find a way of utilising social media as a communication tool, however, our members should not use it to sow division and dishonesty. It is up to the ruling party to defend itself by communicating not only its successes, but what this organisation is striving for.
“It cannot come this far only to destroy itself, let us protect what belongs to us with us by utilising such communication channels to our advantage. Indeed we are proud of our achievements as an organisation, but we also acknowledge our weaknesses,” said Mabuza.
Mabuza stressed the ANC had done much for the people in a short period of time by building houses, providing water, electricity and social grants, among other things. He added the national democratic revolution was, however, far from over as some communities were still greatly affected by unemployment, inequality and poverty.
He said it won the hearts of the people and had the responsibility to change their lives for the better and would continue doing so until everyone enjoyed a better life.
“We must take care of this organisation and remember that petty squabbles will destroy us. Let us not destroy what we have. We are aware that there are still groupings of people that are fighting within. We must jealously guard the unity of the ANC, let us not destroy our fortune,” said Mabuza.
He added the ANC in Mpumalanga’s target was to win the elections by at least 95%.
The conference was attended by over 1 000 voting delegates who had the opportunity to choose their preferred new leaders.
Delegates were voting for 30 members on the list of the ANC in the provincial legislature, 15 candidates who will be in the Mpumalanga list of members of the national assembly and lastly
200 members who will constitute the national-to-national list to be finalised at the national list conference in December.
