Committee calls for submissions on Gender Bill

The written and oral submissions form part of the legislative process of ensuring an inclusive Bill that captures interests and concerns of all South Africans.

The Portfolio Committee on Women, Children and People with Disabilities calls on the public, civil organisations and relevant stakeholders to submit written submissions or make requests for oral submissions in relation to the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill [B50-2013].

The bill, which is currently being considered by the committee, seeks to give effect to section 9 of the Constitution insofar as the empowerment of women and gender equality is concerned by establishing a legislative framework for the empowerment of women. Furthermore, the Bill also aims to align all aspects of laws and implementation of laws relating to women empowerment in addition to addressing the appointment and representation of women in decision making positions and structures.

The written and oral submissions form part of the legislative process of ensuring an inclusive Bill that captures interests and concerns of all South Africans.

The full copy of the Bill can be obtained from any nearest government printers or at www.dwcpd.gov.za, and the closing date for submissions is 20 December 2013.

The submissions will be followed by public hearings to take place early 2014.
