All set for this year’s Govan Mbeki Awards

The Govan Mbeki’s awards were initiated by the forum of Minister and all Provincial MECs (MINMEC) in 2006.

MBOMBELA- It’s all systems go for this year’s Govan Mbeki Awards aimed at honouring all stakeholders who have made significant contribution in the delivery of integrated human settlements.

The awards are scheduled to take place on Thursday (31st July) at the Graceland Hotel in Secunda in the Govan Mbeki District with the departmental MEC Violet Siwela hosting stake holders and partners within the construction industry as well as executive mayors, private sector, business sector and contractors.

“The awards are aimed at recognising and honouring key role players who have contributed substantially to government’s endeavours of housing the needy within integrated and sustainable communities. These include amongst others, contractors, developers, media houses, and business partners,”explained Freddy Ngobe spokesperson of the department.

“The awards will also present an opportunity for recognising efforts by showcasing excellent accomplishments and milestones within the human settlements value chain,”he added.

The awards will see 18 participants from various categories including the following catergories; the Best Priority, Rural, People’s Housing Project, Women Contractor, and Informal Settlements Upgrading Projects that excelled during the 2013/14 financial year.

All provincial winners will compete with their counterparts from other provinces at national level in Gauteng at an event scheduled to take place before the end of August.

In 2013 the province triumphed in the Best Priority Project and Municipal Accreditation Programme where Klarinet Integrated Project from eMalahleni and Steve Tshwete Local Municipality emerged top.
