Youth warned against making the wrong choices in life

A well-known motivational speaker Les Brown once said your goals are the road maps that guide you.

DAANTJIE – Nelspruit Child Welfare organised an important event at Bonginhlanhla High School last week in which pupils were educated about the consequences of substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and unprotected sex.

The theme was, “The high rate of poverty is the cause of HIV/Aids” and the topic was open for debate.
“People of rural areas always blame poverty for their negligence, while government provides us with free clinics, social workers and volunteers from Love Life, to name but a few. People need to acquire help before it is too late,” said a grade- 11 learner, Nelsiwe Mambane.

More than 30 entered a competition and some won trophies and dictionaries for their brilliant performance. A grade 11- pupil, Mbuso Mtshali said,

“We live in a democratic country where everything is free. We cannot blame poverty while we sit and do nothing. Having multiple partners will not bring food to the table, but increases a person’s chances of contracting the virus. A person must test and know his status.”

Ncobile Maseko, Child Welfare representative, said,

“A well-known motivational speaker Les Brown once said your goals are the road maps that guide you, and show you what is possible in your life. So, with these words I say, first identify what you can do best and excel in it. To delay sex or to use protection is a good weapon in achieving your dreams.”
