Children peaceful march for their rights

On Child Protection Day preschool learners from Daantjie recently had a peaceful march to have their rights be taken seriously and about other issues relating to children and their community.

DAANTJIE – Children are the future of our country and on Child Protection Day preschool learners from the area recently had a peaceful march to have their rights be taken seriously and about other issues relating to children and their community.

This march was supported by Msogwaba/Daantjie forum and its auxiliary social worker. The day was celebrated in a special manner and the community was touched by the action they took in standing up for their rights and what they felt must change in order to make the community the best place for every child.

The children carried placards with slogans such as “No to child abuse! ‘Enough is enough ! Justice must take place!, Say no to abuse!” and many more. They marched from Mayibuye Secondary School to the chief’s royal kraal.

One of the objectives was to urge the chief to convene municipal staff to clean the area seeing that it was dirty and environmental unfriendly. They called on the municipality to provide them with special bins for dumping dirty nappies because it was a main contributor to the litter in the area.

Another objective was to emphasise the importance of attending school, hence the march intended to persuade government and parents to send children to preschool, since it offered a safe environment for them when their parents are at work, and prepares them for primary school.

The chairperson of the Msogwaba Daantjie Forum, Lucy Langa said, “I would like to express my gratitude to all the crèches who took part in the event and everyone who made the day possible.”
