
MBOMBELA – The MEC for the Department of Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, representatives from Mbombela Local Municipality and learners, the climbers families and relatives warmly welcomed participants of the 2015 Trek4Mandela Executive Challenge at Cyril Clark High School yesterday.
The team of climbers, including the Chief Executive of Nelson Mandela Foundation Mr Sello Hatang, the CEO of Imbumba Foundation, Mr Richard Mabaso, the team leader, Mr Sibusiso Vilane, radio and TV personality, Ms Penny Lebyane shared their experiences on how trekking Mount Kilimanjaro from July 18 to July 20 was.
The climbers aimed to raise enough funds to secure sanitary towels for more than 270 000 girls through the Caring4Girls programme. This initiative has been endorsed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, aimed at raising funds to keep girls in school by providing sanitary pads during their menstrual cycles. Tabling her 2015/16 Policy and Budget speech Mhaule emphasized that her department with continue to work hand in hand with non governmental organizations such as Imbumba Foundation and the Banking Association South Africa to intensify the Caring4Girls programme
