Poet spreads God’s word
"Even though I am inspired by Mzwakhe I am not imitating him, I am just being myself as most of my songs talk about the challenges that I faced in life".
He is not just a poet, his is a man of God who is eager to spread the Word in style.
The local gospel poet, Phumlani Sifundza who is well known on stage as “Mdlali The Poet,” told Mpumalanga News that he was more than ready to take his calling to another level.
Sifundza recently released his second album titled Emhlabeni Kuphelelele which consists of 12 tracks.
“I fell in love with poetry when I was very young as l was inspired by Mzwakhe Mbuli and I have a calling of spreading the Word of God,” he said.
“When I released my first album, Sincobile, it was not easy as I did not have enough money to record and people were not familiar with my gospel poetry since when we talk about being a poet, we understand Mzwakhe’s and Ntsiki Mazwai’s styles.I was also marketing myself by attending weddings or parties to build my own brand.
“Even though I am inspired by Mzwakhe I am not imitating him, I am just being myself as most of my songs talk about the challenges that I faced in life, how God helped me to overcome them,” he explained.
“When things get tough, I just recall the title of my new album, Emhlabeni Kuphelele and then I pull myself up because before Jesus died on the cross, he said it was finished, I also said those words because God doesn’t put a person in a position in which he cannot survive,” concluded Sifundza.
Even though he doesn’t have a sponsor, he does his marketing through door-to-door campaigns.
