EFF sweeps over 2000 ANC members in Nkomazi

“These people hold a huge number of following, so we could be undermining the number by saying it’s just 2000, it could actually be more than that."

NKOMAZI – The ANC has suffered yet another major blow in what seemed to be one of their strongholds. The EFF has recruited over 2000 ANC members from the area, and according to their leader, Mr Collen Sedibe, this is only the beginning.

“We are excited about what has unfolded over the weekend, in just a day, we managed to get that number of people from the ANC within a day, only God knows what’s going to happen between now and the day of the elections. We are here to work, and that’s exactly what we are going to do,” said Sedibe.

According to Sedibe, amongst the defectors, there’s also former Nkomazi Municipality Chief Whip, Mr Thomas Lubisi, and two former councillors.

“These people hold a huge number of following, so we could be undermining the number by saying it’s just 2000, it could actually be more than that. We have gained momentum and we have created a platform for ourselves now. There’s a huge difference between the 2014 general elections and now. We also have strategic plans in place to visit all the villages in Nkomazi for mass mobilisation,” he added.

However, the ANC seems to be unfazed by this weekend’s events. According to the provincial spokesman, Mr Sibusiso Themba, defections are no longer newsworthy as they happen every day and they are nothing to brag or talk about anymore.

“We are a huge party and have bigger things to worry ourselves about. People defect to the ANC every day and you don’t hear us making noise about it, because it’s just no longer news. It doesn’t shake us and we certainly aren’t getting sleepless nights because of it.

“People go to certain parties because they are promised positions of power, hence they find their way back when that doesn’t happen,” said Themba.

The EFF will be going back to Nkomazi for more recruitments this week.
