The son of the soil broke down to tears

Last year the team shared their experience of climbing the mountain with the MEC of education and her delegation and children from Cyril Clark Secondary School.

MBOMBELA- The province’s experienced mountain climber and expedition leader, Sibusiso  broke down in tears on Wednesday evening, repeatedly apologising to the country for the death of car racing champion Gugu Zulu while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Vilane began by explaining how he told 40 climbers who would be joining him for the Trek4Mandela expedition about the difficult terrain they would face. He said he explained to all the climbers that they were going up a tough Kilimanjaro.

“It is a tough mountain. You are going to have to dig deep to work your way up to the summit of that mountain,”.

Last year Vilane and his team of trekkers including the Chief Executive of Nelson Mandela Foundation Mr Sello Hatang, the CEO of Imbumba Foundation, Mr Richard Mabaso, radio and TV personality, Ms Penny Lebyane shared their experiences on how trekking Mount Kilimanjaro  was with the MEC for the department of education in  Mpumalanga, he delegation and the learners of Cyril Clark Seconday School in Matsafeni.
