More often than not, it all starts with abuse and ongoing violent behaviour, often by men who have turned their partners into punching bags.

Others view women as mere sex objects, to such an extent that they rape and assault them, and end up killing them.
In my view, these perpetrators are nothing but barbarians who do not deserve to live among us human beings; they should rot in jail where they belong.

The sad thing, though, is that prisoners have better rights than all of us who are outside and are leading decent lives with our families, holding women in high regard.

Once they are sentenced by courts of law, they begin behaving themselves well and then qualify for parole.
Recently I was surprised by inmates at Barberton Correctional Services in maximum security, embarking on a hunger strike.

They complained that correctional services authorities were not forwarding their parole applications to the parole board for consideration. Mind you, these are men serving life sentences.

That very fact denotes that they committed serious crimes. It is even possible that some might have committed offenses like rape and murder of innocent women and children.

At times I’m not amused by our justice system which at other times would mete out light sentences or acquit offenders because of lack of evidence.

Even shoddy police investigations contribute to criminals getting away with murder.

Those are some of the things that turn communities against authorities. Case dockets also disappear and criminals walk free in the streets.

If you are serious about eradicating crime in society and you treasure a woman’s life, you need to support tomorrow’s (Friday) march at KaMhlushwa Stadium from 10:00 to 12:00.

Enough is enough.

As men, let’s commit to the notion: Not in my name should young women, mothers and children be brutally raped, killed and abused.
