Well known photographer Sam Nzima has died

The 83-year-old is best known for taking the photograph of a dying Hector Peterson on June 16, 1976, during the Soweto uprising.

Veteran photographer Sam Nzima passed away in a local hospital on Saturday evening.

He was hospitalised since last week Wednesday and had been in the hospital since then.

His grandchild Amukelani Gazide has confirmed the Nzima died last night. “He collapsed on Wednesday, we took him to the hospital. During our visit yesterday we were talking to him, he was showing signs of recovering. We are devasted as afamily we lost a father, and grandfather, funeral arrangements will be announced soon. “said Gazide.
