Farm workers demand better wages

A protest action to demand better working conditions and a living wage has entered a second week at Bergendal Abattoir and Farm outside White River.

The employees accused the company of paying workers poorly at both the farm and abattoir.
“We had been working throughout the Covid-19 period, but still we are paid far less than the national minimum living wage,” they said.
