Teenagers arrested for murder in domestic violence related incidents

The 15-year-old teenagers were arrested and charged accordingly in collaboration with the probation officers.

A teenager from Bushbuckridge and one from Ngodwana appear in court in connection with two separate murders. They were both arrested on August 13. According to police reports, the first murder happened at a homestead in Bushbuckridge.

It is alleged that a scuffle ensued between a 65-year-old man and his wife. The woman left the house. The minor then stabbed the man. He was rushed to hospital but certified dead upon arrival.

“The matter was reported to the Bushbuckridge police. A murder case was opened and the 15-year-old was arrested and charged accordingly in collaboration with the probation officers. He appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court,” said Col Donald Mdhluli, spokesperson for the police.

In a separate incident, another 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder of his 49-year-old uncle in Ngodwana. The victim’s body was found on the streets with multiple wounds. The victim’s nephew was arrested.

The provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has condemned the incidents. She  urged members of the public to work together with the police and other structures of government to address domestic violence and gender-based violence in particular.
