Ramaphosa says the ANC is on the right track

President Cyril Ramaphosa believes that the ANC-led government is on track to eradicate poverty and create employment opportunities for Mpumalanga citizens.

The president of both the ANC and country said his government is looking forward to Covid-19 subsiding, so they can start rebuilding the economy and improve livelihoods.

“The ANC is ready and prepared to work for all our people to improve your lives. Rest assured that the ANC will always work for you. And I want to reaffirm that our councillors will always be rooted among our communities. We are looking forward for the pandemic to come to an end, so we can continue as government to create employment opportunities and develop our areas. In this province, there are massive developments under way, such as the rebuilding of the collapsed Tekwane South Bridge. These are signs of a government at work, working for all our people,” said Ramaphosa.

He was addressing a group of community members in Tekwane South during his visit to the province on Sunday as part of monitoring the voters’ registration processes.

Unlike in Soweto, where he had received a hostile reception and was met with service protests, here Ramaphosa received a warm welcome.

“We are not here because there are elections coming. We are here to simply check up on you and to remind you how important it is to participate during elections. “Each one of us has a responsibility to vote and be an active citizen by expressing our views by voting. I have had the time to listen to some of the people on the ground, and they are telling me that they want more services from government. We have heard your problems. I am happy that you have raised your issues in a very positive manner, and that you spoke very clearly without any fear. You told us all your problems that needed our attention and we will solve these so that you can have a better life. I want to thank you for not burning schools or any property, and closing roads when raising your concerns. We have heard you,” he said.

During his visit to the Tekwane Bridge on the D2966, Ramaphosa met with a group of young people who were expelled from the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College amid reports of corruption.

These young people handed over a memorandum with the list of their grievances to Ramaphosa, who promised to engage the provincial leadership in government regarding their problems.

On parting, Ramaphosa urged everyone to get vaccinated.

“I want to thank you for wearing your face masks in public. Now, I want to implore all those who are 18 and above to go and be vaccinated. This is the only way to protect ourselves from Covid-19,” he appealed
