Primary learners wise up about the dangers of substance abuse
These learners are beneficiaries of this initiative which is hosted by the South African Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) Lowveld.

Learners of Chakaza Primary School received certificates on Saturday for attending the Children Against Drug Abuse (CADA) programme. These learners are beneficiaries of this initiative which is hosted by the South African Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) Lowveld.
Sibusiso Mthembu of Sanca said, “This programme is also known as Kemoja-Kemoja (I am cool without drugs). This is an anti-substance abuse project that runs for months at local schools and accommodates 20 learners per school. We train them to be peer educators. “
Mthembu said they go to various schools to educate learners about the dangers of substance abuse and when they complete the programme they receive certificates. On the day of the handover the learners did presentations on what they had learned.

Vuyisile Mathebula of Chakaza Primary School, said they appreciate that the parents gave them permission to attend.

“The parents would understand when their children stayed after school while others were going home. They would stay from 14:00 to 15:00. During this period I never received complaints from the parents about how their kids had arrived home late.”
