Mjajane Youth Centre provides help to everyone

Since the Mjajane Youth Advisory Centre was established in August 2010 as an NPO, many have been given the opportunity for skills development and to improve their standard of living.

HECTORSPRUIT – The facility, sponsored by Sasol, is situated in Hectorspruit is and run by five youths – Michael Mabaso (manager), Big Boy Mkhwanazi (coordinator), Goodman Mabaso, Saneth Sibiya and Given Shabangu.

The youth centre has resolved to engage in youth development services by aiming to reduce the rate of unemployment, to stimulate economic activities and to empower the youth in the communities.

A gap has been identified by the members in which people lack information about certain aspects of their life such as career guidance, life skills basic computer skills.

Mabaso, Mkhwanazi, Mabaso, Sibiya and Shabangu have undertaken the responsibility to teach these skills to the members of the public.

Mjajane became an information hub for the community as there was no available centre, to begin within that area. It provides information through a wide range of developmental processes and youth aged between 18 and 35 are serviced.

Thirty children below age 13 and 60 above the age 13 are being helped weekly to develop basic life skills and self actualisation. Free basic computer classes are being presented at the centre for people from the age 14 to 35.

“It is Mjajane Youth Centre’s responsibility to provide the community with the skills that will help them in the business world. They do not have the knowledge of how to adapt to the working world that is ever-changing. That is where we step in and help,” said Mabaso.

For adults, the centre does not only teach basic computer skills, but also career skills for those who require advice on how to write a CV for work and to understand the business world of South Africa’s economy.
