Youth league saddened by murder

The ANCYL’s subregion Nelspruit B Zone has reacted with shock to the latest incident of gender-based violence.

MSOGWABA – A young woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend.

The youth league has further called on law enforcement agencies and the courts to prepare a watertight case against the suspect(s) and send a strong warning to the community against this scourge.

The subregion coordinator, Themba Mpila, voiced his disgust at the manner in which the victim was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend. “This is a very sad day for our community. It is disheartening that our women continue to suffer and die at the hands of those who should be protecting them,” said Mpila.

“Once again, our hearts are filled with great pain and disappointment after this incident. We, however, take comfort that our law enforcement agencies and our courts of law will serve justice for the young woman’s family.” Mpila, who is poised to become the next Ehlanzeni Region youth league chairperson, said that in times such as these, a fully operational structure of the league is needed to come up with ideas and programmes that will help combat the scourge of GBV.

“The fight against GBV can never be left at the hands of our police. We also need to come to the space and do our part as communities. It is times such as these that an active structure of the youth league is really needed to spearhead programmes aimed at fighting this scourge.” He also applauded the police for their quick response in arresting the suspect.

“This shows that police are as concerned as we are about GBV,” he said. Mpila said they will support the family in their quest for justice.
